Cy's Place

Our initial meeting with Cy's Place founders Randy and Ree Erickson and Board member, Dr. Shakila Khan of Mayo Clinic lasted nearly three hours. The story was emotional and heartbreaking, but at the same time beautiful, hopeful and full of light.

Cy's Place, a home away from home for children and their families while undergoing transplant and stem cell procedures at Mayo Clinic, was about to launch a capital campaign. It sought to raise awareness and seek support to build a pediatric transplant hospitality house in Rochester, Minnesota.

Red Couch Stories was entrusted to produce a film that would help tell the story. Encore Public Relations mobilized efforts to distribute the story through media relations, a special event and community relations. In less than 72 hours after the film was released, the story was shared extensively through local and regional television and radio stations, blogs, social media outlets and newspapers. The result was more than half a million viewers, listeners and readers are now aware of Cy's Place and the need to build the second pediatric transplant house in the United States.

As the wider community continues to pull together to make Cy's Place a reality, the end result will be a place where sick children and their families will have a place to stay and a network of love and support wrapped around them.

The integrated work earned a 2015 Bronze Stevie Award for Nonprofit PR Campaign of the Year.
